Do you have a plan for your pets after you’re gone?

When a pet’s caregiver is no longer able to provide for them whether due to illness, incapacity, or death, the results can be heartbreaking. Too often, animals end up in shelters confused and grieving, simply because no plan was in place. At Companion Legacy Partners, we ensure that your family companion will always have a safe, loving home no matter what the future holds.

Large numbers of dogs and cats wind up in shelters after their parent or guardian dies

Many people don’t realize this. Coming from the animal rescue and shelter background, we saw first hand how many pets wind up in shelters as soon as their human parent passed away. It is standard protocol in most states for animals left in a home (after someone is incapacitated or passed) to be automatically removed by authorities and taken to their local shelter. Shelter staff are dedicated and caring individuals who work hard to take the best care possible of all animals that come through their doors. Often however, pets who have just lost their family and home have a hard time suddenly transitioning to a completely different environment. It can often be overwhelming and scary for them which can make them shut down and become harder to adopt.

When life changes, your pet stays protected with us

We provide dependable care, designed by you, when you are no longer here. You outline your wishes for a future adoptable home that fits your pet’s preferences and helps with their transition. Their medical care is then covered by money you leave in your will that cares for them for the rest of their lives. We provide professional and guided support for your pet’s next chapter.

Dependable care when you are no longer there

Through you, we get to know your pets in depth. We learn what they love to do, their favorite foods and toys, their idiosyncrasies and pet peeves, what makes them happiest, and what your “dream home” would look like for them. We know that transitioning isn’t easy, so our goal is to keep the stressors to a minimum while they move through the process of being placed in a home that fits your wishes.

Responsible planning for your pet’s future

Financial coverage will be added to your estate plan for your pet’s future. These designated finances will then be used to cover your pet’s veterinary bills for the rest of their life. Your money will stay in a designated account and be managed by CLP from then on, and veterinarians for your pet’s care will be payed directly, or the adoptive family will be reimbursed. The money you set aside is never handed over to the adoptive family, and any money left over from your “care account” after your pet’s eventual passing will be donated to the organization working closely with us to help us re-home your pet according to your standards and wishes.
